The Ballantyne's Christmas Season of...Roger Hall's"Cinderella!" |
Fun for all the Family!
This is an updated musical panto in the 'make 'em laugh' tradition.
Directed By Dimitri Gibara
Performance DATES are November 24 - December 8.
The Original Story
Cinderella was a traditional old French fairy tale. After being translated into English, the characters have changed a lot down the years. New ones were added for the pantomime such as the Baron, Cinderella's father, who is always short of money; Buttons, who loves Cinders and is always trying to cheer her up and Dandini, Prince Charming's valet.
Now one of the most popular pantos, it tells a story of the motherless Cinderella who has to do all the hard work in the kitchen while her ugly stepsisters enjoy themselves. An invitation arrives for the Baron's family to attend the Prince's Ball. The Ugly Sisters are very excited for the Prince is to choose his bride from the ladies who are present at the Ball but they refuse to let Cinders go with them. After they have left for the palace, Cinders is weeping by the fireside in her ragged dress, when her Fairy Godmother appears saying, 'Cinderella, you shall go to the ball!' |

Waving her magic wand she changes a pumpkin into a golden coach pulled by six white horses, and Cinderella's rags become a beautiful ball gown. But her Fairy Godmother warns: 'You must leave the Ball before midnight!'
Cinderella is not recognised by her stepsisters and the Prince dances with her all evening. It is only as the clock starts to strike twelve that she remembers her Fairy Godmother's warning. She flees from the ballroom but the magic coach has vanished and her gown has turned to rags. Running after her, the Prince finds only a glass slipper on the palace steps.
The next day the Prince sends out a proclamation that he will marry the lady whose foot the glass slipper fits. The Ugly Sisters try it on, but their feet are too big. Then Cinderella appears, tries on the slipper and it fits perfectly.
